Kia ora bloggers, Welcome back to my blog.
On the 24th of July Waikowhai Primary School did a litter blitz. A litter blitz is when we walk around
streets and picked up rubbish. Frist we went into our school hall and some people who came to tel
l us about the litter bitz told us that there was six golden tickets hiding in the streets. Then we got put
into groups and we got told what streets we were walking around and picking up rubbish on. We all got
a big bags, gloves and rubbish pickers. My group went down two streets picking up rubbish. All the
Junoirs picked up rubbish in the school and the middle and senior picked up rubbish on the streets
around school. My group had six children and one parent in it. There was three boys and three girls.
My group walked around two streets picking up rubbish for half an hour but the rest of the school pick
up rubbish for an hour.
The reason my group only picked up rubbish for half and hour was because we had a special job.
My group had to sort out some of the rubbish. There was buckets that had a type on rubbish writen
on it. For example there was soft plastic, compost, plastic bottles, plastic, cardboard, paper, Leather
or clothers and miscellaneous. Miscellaneous is the bucket that we put in rubbish or stuff if we didn't
know what bucket it would go in. When a group came in with a bag we would make sure it was full of r
ubbish and then we would weigh it and write it on a board that said bag weighs. Then we would tip out
the bag of rubbish and sorted it out into the right bucket. When a bucket was full we would weigh tha
t bucket and write it on the board that said what type off rubbish it was. We only sorted out three bags
but we weighed all the bags. There was 36 big bags in total and there was 200kgs of rubbish all
together. Then we got to have a free sausage and had our lunch.
We put all the rubbish into one huge bag and took a photo of the whole school.
The day was very fun but when I saw how much rubbish there was it nearly made me cry.
Thank you for reading my blog post. If you have any time please leave a comment.
