Gumboot Friday

😃GUMBOOT  FRIDAY

Fakalofa lahi atu Bloggers, welcome back to my blog.
Last friday it was Gumboot Friday. Gumboot Friday is where all of New Zealand wears
Gumboots. Gumboot Friday is also about fundraising for mental health. So far New Zealand
have raised $836,000 but Mike King is aiming to fundraise $2 million for mental health. At
school we made nice cards for mental health. On the cards we had to write something nice
and positive. We also had to draw some little symbols on the front. After we had finished writing
our nice and positive message, we had to write ‘from senior syndicate’ and under that we had
to write, ‘Waikowhai Primary School’. On the back of the card we had to write ‘supporting
mental health’. The next day the seniors went with a parent in groups and went to streets
around the school and posted the cards in letter boxes. We got this idea because we did a
Healthy Puketapapa booklet. In the Puketapapa booklet questionnaire there lots of questions.
On the first page there was something of what we should do more. A girl named Neeve choose
Mental Health. On one of the other pages you have to write what your going to do and Neeve
wrote, post positive letters in letter boxes. Then Neeve’s teacher read her idea and thought it
was a very good idea.

Our Inquiry topic is Hauora- Well Being. It relates to Inquiry because it lifts people's spirits and
makes the feel good about themselves. I think this was a good idea because it made people
happy. This morning my teacher got a gmail from our last deputy principal Miss Sarah Allen.
She said she was very grateful. Also up at the school office we got a phone message from
someone in the community and she said that the note lifted her son completely, she was quite
teary on the phone.
I thought it was a very good idea because it lifted people's spirits, and it made their day change.
